The American University of Rome’s Program of Communication & Digital Media invites applications for adjunct instructors to lead new courses on Artificial Intelligence and Communications for the 2026/2027 academic year. Our aim is to design new courses to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in communication, media, and information sharing, offering students a comprehensive understanding of AI's implications for communication theories, digital media, journalism, and public relations.
Responsibilities:
- Design and teach a curriculum that integrates concepts of AI with communication theories and practices, including digital storytelling, media ethics, and data-driven journalism.
- Encourage critical analysis among students on the impact of AI technologies such as chatbots, virtual assistants, and algorithmic news curation on public discourse and media consumption.
- Evaluate student performance through innovative assignments that reflect real-world applications of AI in communication fields.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes diversity of thought and interdisciplinary learning, encouraging students to explore the ethical considerations of AI use in media and communications.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in AI and communication technologies to ensure the course content is relevant and forward-thinking.
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree or higher in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Computer Science with a focus on AI, or a closely related field. A Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI applications within communication and media, evidenced by professional experience, research, or previous teaching.
- Proven ability in engaging students in critical thinking and applied learning, with a portfolio of innovative teaching methods and assignments.
- Strong commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex AI concepts to students of varying backgrounds.
