Legal Advisor Position
This position involves providing legal counsel on various aspects of contract law, fiscal law, and regulations related to government contracting and military operations.
- Offer advice on contract law, the Federal Acquisition Regulation, and related legal matters.
- Provide legal opinions on contractual rights, obligations, and fiscal law issues.
- Assist commanders and staff with legal analysis on authority for commitments and expenditures of funds.
- Review requirement justifications and fiscal plans for government contracts.
- Serve as legal advisor to acquisition review boards and provide fiscal law training.
- Coordinate with agencies regarding investigations and serve as legal advisor on bilateral agreements and foreign law conflicts.
- Advise on contract matters involving appropriated and non-appropriated funds.
- Interpret laws, regulations, treaties, and agreements related to contracting and fiscal law.
- Prepare legal opinions on administrative law issues such as investigations, surveys, and command inquiries.
- Conduct training for personnel on administrative and operational legal topics.
- Assist in ethics compliance, including serving as Deputy Designated Agency Ethics Official and providing ethics training.
- Ensure filing of required financial disclosures and manage ethics issues.
Conditions of Employment
- Possible two-year probationary period.
- Eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- Requirement to submit annual Financial Disclosure Reports.
- Maintain active bar membership in a U.S. jurisdiction.
- Obtain and maintain a no-fee passport and visa if required.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Strong skills in researching complex legal issues and providing guidance.
- Ability to manage a heavy caseload ethically and professionally.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Possession of a first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.).
- For GS-12 positions, at least one year of professional legal experience after admission to the bar.
