Avionics Engineer - IVVQ

We are looking for an Avionics Engineer for integration, verification, and validation/qualification of satellite avionics across Data Handling (DHC), Attitude and Orbit Control (AOC), and Failure Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR). The role includes developing simulation models for Satellite Real Time Environment (RTE) using C/C++ compliant with ESA ECSS SMP standard, and preparing final test reports and reviews with the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Real/No-Real Time test environment for Hardware In the Loop (HIL) Testing
  • Real Time Environment (RTE) Simulation modeling based on C/C++ compliant with ECSS SMP standard
  • Matlab/Simulink programming
  • Support hardware unit specification and technical management of related procurement
  • Study/understand the design provided by AOCS/DHC Design Authority to develop verification and testing approach
  • Develop and write test sequences for AOCS, DHC, FDIR aspects
  • Avionics V&V activity at Avionic Test Bench (ATB) level

Working site: Rome (possible short mid‑term periods at other locations). Short periods of 24‑hour shift work may be required across the full week.

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Electrical/Computer/Control Engineering, with explicit focus on programming, Hardware In the Loop testing and Control Systems Engineering.

Fluency in English (C1 or higher).

Preferable 2‑3 years of experience in a similar position.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of kinematics and dynamics of rigid bodies
  • Avionic sensors and actuators technology
  • Knowledge of real/no‑real time test environment for HIL testing
  • Software/hybrid simulators
  • Matlab/Simulink programming
  • C/C++ programming
  • Knowledge of ESA technical standards
  • Data Handling hardware (On Board Computer, Remote Terminal Unit, GNSS receiver, microprocessors)
  • Technical experience understanding Avionic requirements of a satellite (plus)
  • Technical experience on Avionic EGSE elements and development on Spacecraft simulator (plus)
  • Ability to use laboratory instruments such as oscilloscope, multimeter, protocol analyser
  • Capability to work independently and in a team in an international environment
  • Ability to cope with workload pressures
  • Knowledge of quality processes and procedures
