An EU agency is looking for an expert on bioinformatics, to work as an external (remote) expert supporting the development of bioinformatic and OMICs projects, including but not limited to WGS data analysis, sequence analysis and pipelines development (coding, debugging, benchmarking).
Responsibilities
• Development and maintenance of Nextflow pipelines for risk assessment of microbial genomes.
• Testing and benchmarking of bioinformatic tools. Conducting ad-hoc bioinformatic analysis on specific samples.
• Providing bioinformatic services and consultancies to the agency's scientific units.
• Participation to meetings when required.
Requirements
• At least 4 years of professional and scientific experience in the field of bioinformatics, including Genomics, Transcriptomics, Proteomics, Metabolomic, Scripting (R, Python, etc.), NextFlow or other orchestrators for coding pipelines, Containers (Docker, Singularity, etc.), Bash, Azure
• Experience in the analysis and interpretation of WGS data.
• Desirable experience in sequence analysis of DNA and proteins (e.g. BLAST, interPRO, Pfam).
• Proficiency in the common bioinformatic languages, like R or Python: ability to code scripts and/or tools.
• Desirable experience in NextFlow language for pipeline development.
• Experience in container technology (e.g. Docker, Singularity), Bash and Azure cloud technology is fundamental.
Assignment
The position is currently projected by the agency to entail full-time remote (home office) work for one year from September/October 2025 with potential extenstion to subsequent years. Ca. 2 in-person visits to the EU agency's premises are envisaged during the assignment.
