As a Communication System Engineer, you will support the design and verification of ultra‑wide (uW) instruments and communication subsystems. You will work within the uW Payloads, Data Handling and Communication Engineering Unit to define performance requirements, build models and budgets, and contribute to architecture and interfaces. You will engage in verification activities, coordinate with suppliers and customers, and ensure compliance with defense authority rules. This role offers hands‑on impact in space payloads and data handling systems within a global team.

  • Define and assess functional and performance requirements for P/L and S/S (radiometers, data handling, transmission systems, radar‑related systems)
  • Develop and maintain models and software tools for simulating payload and subsystem functionalities and performances
  • Create and maintain RF and data budgets (Link budgets, I/F and budgets for Data Handling, Electrical, RF)
  • Define command/control interfaces and related budget interfaces
  • Contribute to Payloads or S/S architectures and interfaces
  • Support equipment and sub‑assembly monitoring and review attendance with internal/external suppliers
  • Participate in verification and validation activities based on test results
  • Support AIT campaigns as System and Verification Engineer
  • Prepare documents and presentations; contribute to programme reports and meeting minutes
  • Navigate Italian Defense National Authority Rules and obtain relevant security clearance
  • Engage in meetings/reviews with internal and external customers

Responsabilità

  • Master’s degree in Electronic/Telecommunication Engineering
  • Background in communication systems with space applications
  • Knowledge of digital and RF electronics for data handling and wide‑band communication, TT&C
  • Knowledge of onboard data interfaces: MIL‑1553B, CAN SpaceWire, High Speed Serial Link (WizardLink)
  • Knowledge of radio communication protocols and information theory with advanced coding/modulation (Turbo, SCCC, DVB‑S2)
  • Modeling/simulation of HPA non‑linearity and compensation in DSP for high‑order modulation
  • Modeling of frequency response impairments and equalization techniques
  • Modeling of atmospheric propagation effects (loss, de‑polarization, cross‑polarization)
  • CCSDS space data link protocols
  • Data compression techniques/algorithms
  • MATLAB knowledge; Programming (C, Visual Basic)
  • MS Office knowledge
  • English proficiency (written and spoken)
  • Teamwork attitude
  • Eligible for security authorization/clearance under Italian Defense National Authority Rules
