Scope of Work
The Corrosion Engineer will be the focal point for the assessment of corrosion mitigation, monitoring, and associated inspection actions review based on the findings. The role requires close collaboration with the Inspection Method Engineer for the topics captured in the in-house RBI tool and to propose associated updates based on results.
Main Responsibilities
- Liaise with the Laboratory Manager for chemical injection follow-up and associated sampling analysis results.
- Organize and follow the different requested campaigns (corrosion probes readings, cathodic protection, corrosion coupons retrieval).
- Review the RBI study results and associated inspection plans with the Inspection Method Engineer.
- Check the operating parameters that are relevant to corrosion activities using the Process Data Management System and define Integrity Operating Window to protect assets from corrosion threats.
- Coordinate activities of contractors for corrosion monitoring campaigns.
- Propose relevant actions to improve performance and availability of the control system.
- Warn support teams of any recurring problems related to the availability or quality of spare parts.
- Ensure that software produced for modification or corrective actions is in conformity with functional analysis.
- Ensure that control system documentation is up to date.
- Design weekly and monthly reports to monitor potential underperformance of the corrosion protection system (for example, chemicals injection).
Requirements
- Laurea Magistrale and/or Specialistica (or Chartered Engineer, A-levels + 5 years of study) or Laurea Triennale (or Higher National Diploma HND or Certificate HNC, A-levels + 3 years of study, BTS/DUT or equivalent) in metallurgy and/or corrosion.
- 8 years of experience in the field of corrosion, including at least 3 years as a corrosion specialist in the petrochemical industry.
- Deep knowledge of the main corrosion mechanisms and major corrosion threats in an upstream oil and gas plant.
- Knowledge of the principles related to the process and equipment of oil and gas treatment installations.
- Specific professional knowledge of API 580/581 - Risk Based Inspection and API RP 571 - Damage Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry.
- Good knowledge of cathodic protection, painting systems, corrosion mitigation (chemical injection), corrosion monitoring and, more specifically, the use of corrosion probes and coupons.
- Ability to work in a large multinational team.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining good relations with colleagues and others.
- Physical ability to work in the climatic conditions of the site.
- Ability to use Computerized Maintenance and Inspection Management Systems, in-house RBI systems, and dedicated software for probes reading and analysis.
- Proven sense of responsibility, rigorous and methodical approach to operations, with common sense, anticipation and analysis skills, and a natural, flexible authority.
- Fluent in written and spoken Italian and English.
