Job Title
Data Analysis Specialist (2601390)
Organizational Setting Forestry Division (NFO) – FAO headquarters, Rome, Italy. The Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) Team focuses on climate‑resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods. The position is part of the FFF Team.
Job Type & Requisition Consultant / PSA (Personal Services Agreement). Duration: 11 months, with possibility of renewal.
Reporting Lines The specialist reports to the Manager/OiC of the Forest and Farm Facility and is directly supervised by the Lead FFF Forestry Officer and Monitoring–Reporting Specialist.
Technical Focus The incumbent will support programme operations, coordination, and delivery. Responsibilities include designing, developing and maintaining consolidated databases and digital platforms; analysing and visualising data to generate actionable insights; and preparing analytical outputs, dashboards, presentations and communication materials.
Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise in implementing innovative data management and systems development to strengthen MEL systems, focusing on data integration, analytics and data visualization.
Conduct exploratory data analysis and analytical assessments to identify patterns and trends in forestry‑related livelihood activities and their impact on programme outcomes, including data insights and financial dashboards.
Develop, maintain and optimise integrated databases and data management platforms, ensuring quality, consistency and accessibility of programme data across multiple sources.
Review and enhance qualitative and quantitative technical documentation to improve data quality, consistency, analytical value and reporting standards.
Develop data visualisations, analytical dashboards and communication materials using Power BI, Excel or Tableau to support dissemination of programme results and evidence‑based decision‑making.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree recognised by IAU/UNESCO with a specialization in international development, natural resource management, business administration, economics, social sciences, environmental science or related field. A first‑level degree plus two additional years of relevant experience may be considered.
Minimum of one year of relevant working experience in programme or project support, preferably with FAO or other UN agencies.
Working knowledge (level C) of English.
Competencies & Selection Criteria
Strong organisational, analytical and writing skills.
Familiarity with FAO’s contractual modalities and operational procedures is an asset.
Intermediate (level B) knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
