Data Center Engineering Operations Senior Technician - AWS Owned DC, DCEO Job ID: 10476089 | Amazon Data Services Italy S.R.L.

The successful candidate will perform hands‑on operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for AWS‑owned Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. Our engineers are directly operating and maintaining AWS DCs' world‑class mechanical and electrical infrastructure. In addition to technical operations and maintenance, the successful candidate will perform facility operations and ensure the implementation of safety procedures.

This is a highly hands‑on, field‑based role requiring a motivated, self‑managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems while striving for operational excellence. The work follows a process‑oriented approach: the individual needs a strong willingness to learn new processes and adapt to rapidly changing operational scenarios with conflicting priorities.

The successful candidate will be part of the Engineering and Facilities team and will be responsible for maintaining availability for customers, ensuring maintenance and operation of technical infrastructure, and the upkeep and operation of the DC facility.

Key job responsibilities

SAFETY

Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world‑class safety culture. As a facility owner team member, ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams. Own safety initiatives and projects to foster strong safety culture.

Lead by example in implementing and maintaining AWS safety protocols

Respond to emergency situations and coordinate with emergency services as needed

ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE

Operational hands on experience, and deep knowledge with electrical, mechanical, fire protection and control systems, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS’s), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Water treatment systems, Static Transfer Switch (STS), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), Fire Systems and Transformers.

Operate, monitor, and maintain fire detection and suppression systems including pre-action systems, VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus), and other fire protection equipment

Draft, review and publish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) and Method of Procedures (MOP) for in -house activities.

Review vendor documentation for preventative maintenance (e.g. RAMS – Risk Assessment Method of Statement)

Perform routine inspections and testing of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, and suppression systems in accordance with AWS standards and local regulations

Troubleshoot and resolve straightforward electro‑mechanical problems; and collaborates with the engineering team, within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)

Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)

Perform hands‑on preventive and corrective maintenance activities on critical infrastructure

Execute equipment repairs, replacements, and facility modifications in accordance with AWS standards guidelines.

Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, equipment performance, and system configurations

Collaborate with internal AWS teams on capacity planning and infrastructure improvements

Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance

Respond to alarms and perform emergency troubleshooting and repairs

You may train new team members (Drill, Buddy, Mentor)

You may participate in business reviews (e.g., WBR/MBR).

Execute and plan work assignments, using maintenance and change management documents, and by reviewing outstanding action items with your Facility Manager and/or Chief Engineer.

Take action to make improvements based on operating experience, assist in the creation of process improvement plans, and provide process improvement feedback to site leadership

Managing ticketing systems for Preventive and Corrective Maintenance (CMMS, Incident management tool)

Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with health & safety regulations)

The applicable collective agreement for this role is CBA for employees of Telecommunication Sector. The position is classified at level 6 or above, depending on the candidate’s skills, competences and experience.

Basic Qualifications

4+ years of hands‑on experience with critical facility operations and maintenance

Professional or formal Electrical Certification or Apprentice/trades certified or diploma in an Electrical field

Demonstrate advanced electrical competencies (Practice & Theory) and strong knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)

Knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems

Very good command of English (written and spoken)

Driving license valid in Italy (required for shift‑based schedule)

Preferred Qualifications

Data Center/mission critical engineering experience in AWS‑owned facilities/ Hyperscaler

7+ years of Data Center or mission‑critical engineering experience

Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and monitoring platforms

Hands‑on experience with fire protection systems including pre‑action, VESDA, and gaseous suppression systems

Experience performing direct maintenance and repairs on critical infrastructure equipment

Familiarity with AWS operational procedures and standards

Experience working in shift‑based operations environments

Willing to travel between data center sites, and internationally if required

Experience leading technical projects or initiatives

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Demonstrated experience mentoring or training technical staff

The minimum gross base salary for this position is listed below. The base salary listed corresponds to working on a full‑time basis. For part‑time hours, the salary will be pro‑rated.

In addition, the candidate may be eligible to participate in a restricted stock unit scheme operated independently by Amazon.com Inc. in USA.
