The successful candidate will perform hands‑on operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for AWS‑owned Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. The role involves facility operations, safety procedures, and ensuring availability for customers.
Key Responsibilities
SAFETY
- Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and encourage a world‑class safety culture.
- Remediate safety risks/issues in partnership with other teams.
- Own safety initiatives and projects.
- Lead by example in implementing and maintaining AWS safety protocols.
- Respond to emergency situations and coordinate with emergency services.
ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
- Hands‑on operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment, including UPSs, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATSs, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain fire detection and suppression systems such as VESDA.
- Perform routine inspections and testing of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, and suppression systems.
- Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Perform hands‑on preventive and corrective maintenance activities on critical infrastructure.
- Execute equipment repairs, replacements, and facility modifications.
- Directly perform routine maintenance tasks such as filter changes, equipment cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, equipment performance, and system configurations.
- Collaborate with internal AWS teams on capacity planning and infrastructure improvements.
- Coordinate and oversee contractor work when specialized services are required.
- Respond to alarms and perform emergency troubleshooting and repairs.
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required.
Basic Qualifications
- Professional or formal Electrical Certification or apprenticeship/trades certification or diploma in an Electrical field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical competencies and mechanical systems (HVAC, controls).
- Knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems.
- Valid driving license (required for shift‑based schedule).
Preferred Qualifications
- Data Center/mission critical engineering experience in AWS‑owned facilities.
- Hands‑on experience with fire protection systems such as pre‑action, VESDA, and gaseous suppression systems.
- Experience performing direct maintenance and repairs on critical infrastructure equipment.
- Familiarity with AWS operational procedures and standards.
- Experience working in shift‑based operations environments.
- Willingness to travel between data center sites, and internationally if required.
