Data Center Operations Manager, Nights

Amazon Web Services is a fast‑paced technology company and a leader in data center operations. The Operations Manager will ensure overall availability and reliability of data center infrastructure, leading teams in hardware and network diagnostics and physical repair, supporting on‑call rotations, and driving continuous improvement of tools, processes, and documentation.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Operationally responsible for Amazon data centers during the day shift.
• Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to technicians, reviewing ticket queue for large events and addressing them.
• Coordinate change‑management resources and maintain the on‑call schedule.
• Guide, train and educate data staff on best practices related to service owner issues.
• Manage and deliver medium‑sized projects and recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures that meet industry best practices and required SLAs.
• Manage a diverse team of data technicians, recruit and train new staff, and provide weekly staff meetings and performance reviews.
• Maintain weekly reporting to the data center manager and provide documentation and site‑level project work.

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of engineering team management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of professional or military experience in an IT‑related field.
• 3+ years of networking experience and knowledge of cabling best practices.
• 3+ years of experience with hardware architectures, troubleshooting, system management tools, and client/server environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in data center engineering.
• Experience in program or project management.
• Meet/exceed Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
• Meet/exceed Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
