Job Description
Directs, plans, organizes, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities in a tertiary hospital setting.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads the Infection Prevention team by communicating effectively, developing staff, and building consensus for programs and goals aligned with organizational objectives.
- Develops and communicates a short-term strategic vision for infection prevention.
- Implements hospital infection prevention goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with standards; manages departmental budget, salaries, and resources.
- Conducts infection surveillance and risk assessments according to guidelines; identifies and addresses infection risks to patients, staff, and the community.
- Investigates epidemiologically significant infections and exposures; identifies sources and implements risk reduction strategies.
- Reports operational performance, justifications, and corrective actions to hospital leadership and regulatory agencies.
- Oversees infection prevention training programs covering standards of care, sterilization, disinfection, hand hygiene, and equipment management.
- Ensures proper staffing, compliance with regulations, and participates in external reviews for accreditation.
- Builds collaborative relationships across departments to enhance patient care and compliance.
- Partners with Human Resources to increase vaccination rates and improve exposure interventions; maintains records accurately.
- Performs other related duties as required, adhering to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
- Current RN license in New York State (preferred).
- Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) (required).
- 8-12 years of relevant experience.
- 7+ years of leadership/management experience.
Additional Information
Possible $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.
The salary range is a good faith estimate and may vary based on location, experience, education, and other factors.
