Job Description

Directs, plans, organizes, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities in a tertiary hospital setting.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Leads the Infection Prevention team by communicating effectively, developing staff, and building consensus for programs and goals aligned with organizational objectives.
  2. Develops and communicates a short-term strategic vision for infection prevention.
  3. Implements hospital infection prevention goals, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with standards; manages departmental budget, salaries, and resources.
  4. Conducts infection surveillance and risk assessments according to guidelines; identifies and addresses infection risks to patients, staff, and the community.
  5. Investigates epidemiologically significant infections and exposures; identifies sources and implements risk reduction strategies.
  6. Reports operational performance, justifications, and corrective actions to hospital leadership and regulatory agencies.
  7. Oversees infection prevention training programs covering standards of care, sterilization, disinfection, hand hygiene, and equipment management.
  8. Ensures proper staffing, compliance with regulations, and participates in external reviews for accreditation.
  9. Builds collaborative relationships across departments to enhance patient care and compliance.
  10. Partners with Human Resources to increase vaccination rates and improve exposure interventions; maintains records accurately.
  11. Performs other related duties as required, adhering to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Current RN license in New York State (preferred).
  • Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) (required).
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of leadership/management experience.

Additional Information

Possible $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.

The salary range is a good faith estimate and may vary based on location, experience, education, and other factors.
