Job Description
Directs, plans, organizes, and evaluates infection prevention and control activities in a tertiary hospital setting.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads the Infection Prevention team by communicating effectively, developing staff, and building consensus for programs and goals aligned with organizational objectives.
- Develops and communicates a short-term strategic vision for infection prevention areas.
- Implements and oversees hospital infection prevention goals, policies, procedures, and aligns them with organizational standards; manages departmental budget, salaries, and resources.
- Plans and reviews infection surveillance and risk assessments in accordance with guidelines; identifies and mitigates infection risks to patients, staff, and the community.
- Investigates epidemiologically significant infections, clusters, and exposures; identifies sources and implements interventions to reduce risks.
- Reports operational performance, justifications, and corrective actions to hospital leadership and relevant agencies.
- Oversees infection prevention training programs covering standards of care, sterilization, disinfection, hand hygiene, and equipment management; manages staff performance and development.
- Ensures proper scheduling, responsibilities, and compliance with regulations; participates in external reviews for accreditation.
- Builds collaborative relationships within and across departments to enhance patient care and compliance with infection control practices.
- Partners with Human Resources to improve vaccination rates and exposure interventions; maintains accurate records and information systems.
- Performs additional related duties as required, adhering to the Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
- Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State (preferred).
- Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), required.
- Specialized certifications as needed.
- 8-12 years of relevant experience.
- 7+ years of leadership or management experience.
Additional Details
Sign-on bonus of $10,000 may be available to eligible candidates.
