Director of Engineering

Responsibilities

As Director of Engineering, I will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation of the Engineering department, including landscape and gardening, plant and equipment, technical work, carpentry, sustainability, fire and safety systems, and a preventative maintenance program to provide exceptional products and services within brand standards.

The duties and responsibilities include:

1. Continuously improve maintenance and engineering practices to ensure the product remains in optimal condition, aligned with Six Senses wellness and sustainability standards.
2. Ensure adequate staffing and organize external contractors as required.
3. Promote a cost-focused approach through training and education.
4. Possess technical skills to analyze and design projects, conduct investigations, and maintain full knowledge of engineering-related products and services used in resorts.
5. Establish and achieve financial targets related to revenue, profitability, and ROIC.
6. Operate the property in compliance with all legal, statutory, and financial requirements, including reporting systems, contractual obligations, security, safety protocols, communication, product and service standards, host management practices, and budget controls.

Qualifications

To succeed as Director of Engineering, candidates should have the necessary qualifications, technical skills, and experience in a similar role within luxury hotels, with proven results, including:

1. Some college or advanced vocational training, plus six years of experience in general building maintenance, construction, or supervisory roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with over ten years’ experience in a similar hotel engineering role, is preferred.
2. Professional certification and licenses as required by law.
3. Specialized expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields. Certifications such as Level 3 EPA, HVAC, refrigeration, licensed plumber, or journeyman status for electrician and carpenter may be required.
4. Fluency in English; additional languages are preferred. Ability to work in the EU.
