Offer Description

The project will focus on the analysis of the language of Khotanese documents and its relationship to literary texts, with particular attention to variation between Khotan and Dunhuang. From a sociolinguistic and diachronic perspective, it will examine differences across registers, levels of formality, and written varieties, including possible cases of diglossia or mismatch between written norms and actual usage. The aim is to clarify the role of documentary texts in reconstructing “colloquial” language and in the periodisation of Khotanese. The candidate will also contribute to TEI encoding and SQL database management.
