Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Services seeks an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating AWS data center infrastructure. The role focuses on high‑voltage distribution, substation design, and ensuring safety, reliability, and cost efficiency for our mission‑critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal teams to understand user and customer requirements.
• Design data center substations and work with multidisciplinary teams to produce construction documents.
• Create designs that meet quality and budgetary expectations.
• Specify electrical equipment in partnership with regional vendors and manufacturers.
• Engage with local utilities to define site utility requirements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal regulations and building codes.
• Review and approve equipment submittals.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during all construction phases.
• Collaborate with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance.
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
• Travel to sites for reviews, engineering evaluations, audits, and startup activities (up to 25% domestic travel; occasional international travel).
• Promote creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions and maintain a rigorous safety and security mindset.

Basic Qualifications

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
• 4+ years of commissioning experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience researching and applying new designs, technologies, and construction methods in data center environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4+ years of direct experience in substation design for data centers or mission‑critical facilities.
• Professional Engineering License.
• Familiarity with medium‑voltage distribution system design.
• Excellent understanding of the National Electrical Code.
• Deep knowledge of critical data center electrical equipment (UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, VFDs, ATS).
• Leadership and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to research, develop, and implement new design concepts.
• Creative mindset to reduce costs without compromising quality, reliability, or maintainability.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
• Experience with construction or operation of data centers, fast‑track design/build projects, and large‑scale compute farms.
• Understanding of building codes and regulations (Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA).

Location & Travel

Position may be based in Herndon, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; or Columbus, OH. Travel to data centers and vendor sites within the Americas (up to 25% of the time) and occasional international support is required.
