Job Description:
The HVAC Engineering Lead for Airflow Loop is responsible for the development and validation of the automotive HVAC unit and airflow loop components. The candidate will be the technical lead for component development from concept selection to final validation and commercial launch. The candidate will also support the development of component standardization and reuse, design rule harmonization, best practices, lessons learned, functional objectives and standards. The candidate will review and approve technical content of related components and support management in all resource coordination requirements. Candidate will ensure the HVAC unit and air exhausters meet performance objectives and will support development with other functional areas such as IP, hard trim, soft trim, BIW, Aero/Thermal, Engine Cooling, PDO and suppliers. The candidate will ensure a component and sub-system DVP&R is executed and support data analysis and establish proper corrective actions as required. Need to mentor/coach HVAC Airflow Loop engineers at all phases of component and sub-system development and coach/lead CFD and Design teams to design and perform virtual CFD analysis of components that will meet airflow performance. Candidate will also support supplier component assembly and pilot build process at the assembly plant for development and installation of HVAC components.
Basic qualifications, experience, and knowledge
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited university.
- Minimum 5 years of HVAC unit product development experience. Other related design experience (Electrified Powertrain, Engine cooling, Aero-Thermal) also a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Automotive product development and program execution
- Strong PC + MS Office skills required. Excellent written, verbal and listening skills along with strong interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter and motivated to produce results.
- Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).
- Understanding of the engineering development processes to ensure robust design development.
- Advance thermodynamics knowledge.
- Ability to create and harmonize technical documentation including DFMEA and DVP&R; creating DFMEA documentation to ensure proper flow for function, failure mode, and design controls which lead directly in to DVP&R.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in HVAC, PTC’s, ducts and outlets are a plus.
- Experience using CAD software (NX, Catia, etc.)
- Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).
