AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We keep the cloud running by supporting data centers and all servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continual access to innovation. You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team is the backbone of AWS, supporting rapid growth 24x7 and maintaining physical facility infrastructure with emphasis on safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency and cost. The DCEO Team seeks motivated, self-starting, eager-to-learn, and committed individuals to join us. As part of the Infrastructure Operations Team, you will work with advanced technologies in a dynamic environment and contribute to a culture that values bold ideas and ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as interface with the Colocation provider's technical and facility teams to address day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Act as interface with on-site Colocation providers and contractors to ensure all work complies with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
  • Monitor Colocation suppliers performing routine maintenance and respond to emergency services for critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
  • Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for Data Center facilities.
  • Engage in non-office on-call responsibilities and respond promptly to emergencies or incidents; review and refine Emergency Operations Procedures to handle situations effectively.
  • Collaborate with Colocation providers and contractors to resolve infrastructure engineering issues and conduct root cause analysis for operational issues.
  • Participate in improvements to enhance data center safety, security, and availability.
  • Facilitate rack installation and conduct rack space, power, and cooling assessments.

Day-to-day and Projects

Execute small-to-medium projects from conception to completion, balancing independent work with collaboration with external support groups (engineering, automation, processing, and finance) in controlled environments. Create and deliver milestones, obtain quotes for costs, and document project results to drive innovation, resiliency, and cost reduction in facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in 7x24 operations with schedule flexibility; shifts can be up to 12 hours and may rotate.
  • Provide timely escalation for all facilities-related issues within the data center.
  • Perform first-line troubleshooting and reporting of facility and high-criticality events within SLA.
  • Provide assistance to junior and peer EOTs.
  • Oversee third-party vendors to ensure work complies with safety protocols, best practices, and local legislation.
  • Utilize administrative tools for change management, ticketing, and asset management.
  • Support project/stakeholder teams and vendor activities.
  • Oversee all commissioning activities and complete assigned project tasks with reporting metrics.
  • Engage supporting teams for issue resolution and ensure compliance with AWS Data Center safety and security protocols.
  • Participate in day-to-day data center facility operations, including facility change management; manage vendor relationships and provide technical consultation.
  • Review emergency and standard operating procedures; participate in facility event analysis, emergency drills, and cross-team trainings.
  • Drive operational excellence and enhance customer experience.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
  • Knowledge of generic mechanical room infrastructure such as chillers, cooler units, and fan controls.
  • Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (mechanical, HVAC systems, controls).
  • Knowledge of BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
  • 2+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
