About the role

We are looking for a full-stack engineer with extensive DevOps experience to take on technical responsibility for the NATIVA Operating System (NOS) , our proprietary platform that orchestrates AI agents, data pipelines and decision-making flows to support our teams. The NOS is currently in its early stages. The infrastructure has been designed; now it needs to be built. This is a founding role: you will be the first person dedicated full-time to building the system, within the product team, and you will work closely with consultants and other business functions.

Based in Milan or Rome, hybrid working or (if necessary) fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve the NOS architecture: orchestration layers, agent management frameworks, and runtime environments.
  • Develop scalable backend services and APIs that enable interaction between Nativer, AI models, agents and data systems.
  • Build and maintain frontend interfaces that present complex AI workflows in an intuitive manner.
  • Make system design decisions to ensure the system’s scalability, reliability and performance.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native deployments.
  • Oversee DevOps practices: containerisation, orchestration, monitoring and incident management.
  • Define and apply testing strategies across the entire stack (unit, integration, end-to-end).
  • Define and apply security-by-design practices, in collaboration with an external security advisor for periodic audits and threat modelling.
  • Work with the product team and consultants to translate real-world requirements into deployable features.
  • Identify bottlenecks and continuously improve system performance and developer experience.
  • Keep up to date with developments in AI systems, distributed architectures and software engineering, and proactively share relevant progress with the product team.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years’ experience as a software engineer in product-oriented environments.
  • Solid full-stack experience: backend (Python or Node.js) and frontend (React or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure).
  • Practical experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience in designing REST APIs and event-driven systems.
  • Familiarity with distributed architectures and microservices.
  • Experience with LLMs, agent-based systems, and AI orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience with testing methodologies and QA practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of system reliability, observability and monitoring.
  • Security-by-design mindset: secret management, authentication, principle of least privilege, threat modelling.
  • Proficiency in Git and collaborative workflows.
  • Autonomy, systems thinking, and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of MLOps and data pipelines.
  • Experience with RAG systems and knowledge graphs.
  • Experience with event streaming (Kafka or similar).
  • Background in computer science or engineering.
  • Awareness of ESG issues, sustainability and social impact.
