Future of Flight - Gearbox Systems Engineer
Descrizione dell'offerta
Overview
At Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace company, we invent the future of flight, lift people up, and bring them home safely. We specialize in the design, production, and maintenance of components and propulsion systems for civil and military aviation. We are committed to respecting people and to FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model. We attract, develop, and retain industry-leading talent and cultivate communities where people are respected and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
In Advanced Systems Design we develop Mechanical Transmissions (i.e., accessory drivetrain & power gearboxes) for Next Generation Narrow-Body aircraft. We are seeking a Systems Engineer to contribute to the conceptual design, development, integration, and testing of high-performance gearbox systems.
Responsibilities
- Concept & Architecture: Conduct concept design and technical feasibility studies in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary design team. Define the gearbox architecture and design intent in line with product specifications and system-level requirements.
- System Definition & Integration: Lead and coordinate design activities, providing system-level inputs for component definition (mechanical/functional interfaces, stack-ups, assembly checks). Ensure proper integration of the gearbox module within the engine/aircraft system, coordinating with GE Aerospace global teams, partners, and internal stakeholders. Work with the Gearbox Module Owner to ensure program priorities are clearly flowed down and aligned across supporting organizations.
- Validation & Verification / Technology Maturation: Define the V&V strategy for the gearbox module, including planning of analysis and test. Flow down system requirements to the rig design and test teams and lead the preparation of test design reviews. Support and track technology maturation activities, ensuring risks, mitigations, and learnings are captured and communicated.
- Configuration & Documentation: Define and maintain the Bill of Material (BOM) and manage configurations using company tools and processes. Ensure system documentation, requirements, and design records are complete, traceable, and compliant with internal and customer standards.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited university or college
- Experience in mechanical design, preferably in rotating machinery, drivetrain, or gearbox-related applications
- Knowledge of CAD design tools, preferably NX and Teamcenter (or equivalent PLM systems)
- Fluency in English and Italian (written and spoken)
- Eligibility to work in the country of employment; work visa in accordance with local regulations, where applicable
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge of gearbox technical requirements, design solutions, and relevant technologies (e.g., gears, bearings, lubrication, housings)
- Experience defining and executing Validation & Verification strategies and supporting test campaigns (rig or component level)
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) or similar product development processes
- Basic knowledge of FEM/FEA tools and structural analysis
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to make sound engineering judgments
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical topics clearly to diverse audiences
- Structured, diligent, and clear-thinking approach to engineering tasks and documentation
