GFS Finance Manager, Global Finance Solutions, Global Finance Solutions

Amazon's Global Finance Solutions (GFS) team is a fast‑paced, team‑focused, dynamic environment where delivering great experiences for our customers is top priority. GFS is seeking a Finance Manager to support our internal Finance business partners. You'll manage a high‑performing team while partnering with business leaders to provide financial insights, develop strategic recommendations, and improve operational efficiency.

The candidate will perform financial reporting, support monthly P&L analysis and financial forecasts, review fiscal close in close co‑ordination with business and accounting teams, evaluate Capex/Opex requirements, and continuously benchmark cost productivity for the business. Additionally, the role will facilitate financial review meetings and work with business managers to ensure effective finance and cost management, provide inputs for monthly and quarterly business reviews in a timely manner, and follow through with business leaders on actionable items for improving business metrics over time.

Additional responsibilities include partnering across vertical teams to ensure high‑quality reporting, ad‑hoc business analyses, financial modeling and analysis of business trends, establishing controls, and defining/maintaining business metrics for new/existing businesses. The candidate will also partner with the Global leadership team to develop strategic multi‑year or long‑term operating plans, present recommendations to senior management on strategic decisions and planned future initiatives, drive hiring, manage performance, and hold accountability.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of financial analysts, including performance management, career development, and mentoring.
  • Lead hiring efforts for your team, including interviewing and selection decisions.
  • Own financial planning and analysis for assigned GFS business units.
  • Lead monthly close, MBR/QBR preparations, and variance analysis.
  • Drive annual OP process and quarterly forecasts.
  • Develop automated solutions for financial reporting and analysis.
  • Create and present executive‑ready deliverables.
  • Partner with business teams on strategic initiatives.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Support investment decisions and business cases.
  • Drive strategic projects and ad‑hoc analysis.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within your team.

About the Team

Global Finance and Solutions (GFS) services teams across the world. Our primary customers are Finance Operations, Central Accounting, and other Amazon Finance teams. We focus on controllership and financial stewardship, and have three primary missions:

  • Provide world‑class finance leadership and support to our customers at the highest level of controllership.
  • Lower our company’s cost structure by transitioning accounting and finance work from high to low‑cost geographies.
  • Drive additional scale and productivity by optimizing and automating processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience.
  • 5+ years of directly managing and leading a team of 5+ members.
  • 3+ years of advanced proficiency in Excel (pivots, lookups, etc.).
  • 6+ years of applying key financial performance indicators (KPIs) to analyses.
  • 6+ years of building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision‑making.
  • 6+ years of creating process improvements with automation and analysis.
  • Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience in SQL Server/MySQL.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results.
  • 6+ years of identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause, and creating/implementing an escalation plan.
  • 6+ years of mentoring junior finance and/or business team members.
  • 3+ years of working with senior staff (e.g., C‑suite).
  • MBA, or CPA.
  • Experience working with large‑scale data mining and reporting tools (e.g., SQL, MSAccess, Essbase or Cognos) and providing recommendations based on results of ad‑hoc analyses to management for strategic decision‑making.
