Job Summary
As a Global Application Engineer in ABB’s Electrification Business – Smart Power Division, you will bridge R&D innovation and market reality, translating emerging technology feasibility and real-world commercial applications into viable business opportunities.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the vision of electrification solutions over 3–8 years, grounded in technology trajectories, feasibility, and division strategy.
Investigate global macro‑trends in emerging technologies, applications, and segments; shape innovation strategy and roadmap with technical feasibility assessments and strategic recommendations for ELSP leadership.
Develop reference architectures and technical frameworks for emerging applications and use‑cases, translating technology trends into actionable system design concepts.
Conduct technology benchmarking and competitive technical analysis, identifying critical gaps and opportunities against Smart Power’s current capabilities.
Build the ELSP ecosystem of key partners and customers through collaboration and knowledge exchange, piloting novel applications and validating technical feasibility and market viability.
Design and facilitate technical workshops with internal teams, customers, and partners to explore and validate emerging technology concepts and innovation hypotheses.
Perform technical feasibility studies and proof‑of‑concept definitions, assessing technical maturity (up to TRL2), scalability, and applicability to Smart Power’s portfolio.
Contribute to technical documentation and innovation briefs, translating findings into clear strategic recommendations for stakeholders and leadership, while supporting a collaborative team environment.
Background
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Electrical; PhD is a plus.
5+ years of experience in the electrical field.
Extensive experience with power electronics, microgrids, data center technologies, or comparable advanced electrical systems, including practical work in proof‑of‑concept development and technology validation.
Demonstrated stakeholder management ability in multicultural environments, combined with communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Strategic thinker, comfortable translating complex technical concepts into business opportunities and recommendations.
Agile mindset; proficiency in written and spoken English.
