The Role:

We seek a creative Hardware Engineer to lead the development and refinement of advanced electronic and electromechanical systems powering our next-generation bioreactors. This role blends electrical systems expertise with electronics innovation to drive intelligent automation and high-integrity data acquisition in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.

As a senior team member, you will shape critical system architectures, mentor colleagues, and ensure our automation systems are robust, compliant, and ready for industrial deployment.

What You'll Be Leading

• Own system design – Lead the design, integration, and optimisation of electrical distribution, control systems, and electromechanical assemblies across our bioproduction platforms.
• Engineer next-generation systems – Develop electronic circuits while prioritising electrical systems as the system scales, alongside sensor networks and embedded control systems, to create more intelligent and efficient bioprocessing environments.
• Deliver industrial-grade reliability – Oversee sensor integration, real-time data acquisition, signal processing, and ensure system resilience under manufacturing conditions.
• Independently design a custom PCB from the ground up, have it manufactured, and then complete the assembly and testing.
• Champion safety and compliance – Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, EMC/EMI regulations, and safety protocols from concept through deployment.
• Mentor and collaborate – Provide technical leadership within cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of shared learning and system-wide excellence.
• Innovate sustainably – Contribute to developing eco-efficient systems that align with Arsenale's commitment to sustainable biomanufacturing.
• Develop custom sensing solutions tailored for biological environments and conditions.

What You Bring to the Team

• A degree (BEng, MEng, or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant hands-on experience in electrical system design, electronic circuit development, PCB layout, and industrial control systems.
• Proven track record in integrating electromechanical systems and designing for industrial automation.
• Expertise in sensor technologies, signal processing, data acquisition, and real-time systems.
• Strong capability in EMC/EMI design and analysis, focusing on ensuring robust industrial performance.
• Deep understanding of safety standards and compliance regulations (CE marking, UL, etc.).
• Proficiency with laboratory and field testing equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, etc.).
• Programming competence in C/C++, Python, and familiarity with modelling/simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink).
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex electromechanical challenges.
• A mentorship mindset, comfortable leading technical discussions and supporting team growth in a scaling startup environment.
