Head of Care - Patent Attorney

Role: Head of Care – Patent Attorney

Location: Italy - Parma (Hybrid working)

The Company and Role:

We are partnered with a research‑focused pharmaceutical and healthcare group that is looking to appoint a Patent Attorney as Head of Care. You will be the Head of IP for the CARE franchise, managing all IP activities needed to secure the company’s IP rights, supporting both internal R&D projects and in‑licensing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full IP responsibility for the CARE franchise, acting as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, reporting to the VP Head of Global IP.
  • Provide infringement and validity advice, and educate stakeholders on IP matters, including litigation and competition issues.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications worldwide.
  • Monitor and assess third‑party patents, in collaboration with the internal competitive intelligence team.
  • Perform due diligence in close collaboration with legal and commercial teams, assessing patentability and freedom‑to‑operate, and drafting IP clauses where appropriate.
  • Support opposition and litigation proceedings.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree in life science (or equivalent), with a good understanding of biological subject matter and a willingness to improve these skills on the field.
  • At least 5 years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry or IP/law firms, with proven experience handling complex IP matters and projects.
  • Good leadership and knowledge of the R&D lifecycle and pharma business essential for the role.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to improve people‑management abilities.
