Senior Instrumentation Engineer

is responsible for activities related to its discipline within a project or across projects assigned. He/She guides, as Discipline Leader, a group of instrumentation engineers assigned to the project, for the development of deliverables and execution of activities of instrumentation and automation discipline according to the project schedule in compliance with safety and technological requirements and standards defined for the project.

He/She reports to the Project Manager and Process Automation Manager for the project related activities, while reports to the Head of Department for resource management.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Automation/Electrical engineering.
  • Minimum +7/8 years of work experience in engineering design in Oil & Gas or Power sectors is preferred.
  • Proactivity, sense of initiative, ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Fluent in Italian and English (written and spoken).
  • Availability to short and long term national and international business trips.

Main tasks and responsibilities

During the project execution the main tasks and responsibilities of Senior Instrumentation Engineer are:

  • Discuss with Project Manager and Head of Department the project execution strategy and project time schedule
  • Coordinate the discipline activities ensuring consistency with schedule, project requirements, technological requirements, safety requirements and standards defined for the project
  • Cooperate with other disciplines’ leaders for the project execution
  • Identifies deviations by contract scope of work and their impact on the project.
  • Interface with Customer, Vendors and Manufacturers for instrumentation subjects
  • Provide instrumentation engineering expertise for the design and development of the project
  • Checks and approves the documentation related to the project before issuing
  • Contribute to Hazard and Operability studies (HazOp), Hazard Identification studies (HazId), risk assessment, SIL assignment
  • Provide technical support to procurement department (Technical Bid Evaluation)


As part of the Process Automation and Electrical Department, the Senior Instrumentation Engineer:

  • Provides feedback to Head of Department to increase efficiency of the team assigned to the project
  • Assist in the development of departmental procedures, standards and work instructions
  • Trains colleagues technically according to the needs of the Department transferring competences and sharing experiences
  • Keeps himself updated about the instrumentation design and promotes improvements
  • Pursues the continuous improvement of his technical and managerial competences


Possible additional tasks

  • He/She can be Department representative during technical meetings with Customers or Manufacturers.
  • He/She can be Company representative at plant site
  • He/She can be assigned at site as pre-commissioning/commissioning supervisor and start-up supervisor for all those activities related to plant process automation
  • He/She can check pre-commissioning, commissioning procedure related to plant process automation prepared by others
  • He/She can assist Customer during plant running, plant fine tuning and for plant data collection
  • He/She can be Company representative for manufacturer inspection
  • He/She can support Commercial Department in the preparation of technical proposal and to attend at technical/commercial meetings

Junior Instrumentation Engineer

is responsible for activities related to its discipline within a project. He/She as part of a group of instrumentation engineers assigned to the project, prepare deliverables and execute activities within the Discipline for a specific project in compliance with safety and technological requirements and standards defined for the project.

He/She reports to the Head of Department, while reports to the Instrumentation Discipline Leader assigned to the project for the project related activities.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Automation/Electrical engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical engineering.
  • Minimum +2/3 years of work experience in engineering design in Oil & Gas or Power sectors is preferred.
  • Proactivity, sense of initiative, ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Fluent in Italian and English (written and spoken).
  • Availability to short and long term national and international business trips.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Guided by the Instrumentation Discipline Leader, Instrumentation Engineer main tasks during project execution are:

  • Develop the discipline deliverables such as:
  • Technical specifications / data sheets for field and control room instrumentation.
  • Sizing and calculation of flow elements, control, and safety valves.
  • Process hook-up sketches and relevant bill of materials.
  • Interconnecting and wiring diagrams.
  • Instrumentation cabling, wiring, junction boxes, power supply and distribution, UPS, and associated TCP/IP, SCADA, Modbus networking (switches, routers, Ethernet, fiber optics, etc.)
  • Cause & effect matrices.
  • Interlock and control logic diagrams.
  • Interlock and control narratives.
  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Packages and/or Machinery controls and protection systems
  • Control and instrumentation design on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Fire and Gas detection and protection systems


As part of the Department the Instrumentation Engineer:

  • Provides feedback to Instrumentation Discipline Leader to increase efficiency of the group assigned to the project
  • Receives continuous training on the job according to the needs of the Department acquiring competences and shared experiences
  • Keeps himself updated about the instrumentation design
  • Pursues the continuous improvement of his proficiency and technical competences


Possible additional tasks

  • He/She can assist the pre-commissioning/commissioning supervisor and start-up supervisor for all those activities related to plant process automation
  • He/She can participate to manufacturer inspections
