JOB PURPOSE

An exciting opportunity exists for a talented IT System Engineer to join our newly created luxury travel brand Explora Journeys. This role is based in our office in Naples .

IT System Engineer with 5+ years of experience, genuinely passionate about well managed and resilient systems, monitoring, and operational continuity. The person will be hands‑on across our AWS and Azure environments daily, managing cloud infrastructure, ensuring continuous production, and owning the reliability of our systems end to end.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Handle day-to-day cloud operations including resource management, configuration changes, patch coordination, and capacity monitoring, ensuring infrastructure remains healthy, documented, and aligned with operational standards.
  • Maintain and govern Azure RBAC policies across both application and user scopes, ensuring access is correctly assigned, regularly reviewed, and aligned with least‑privilege principles.
  • Own and continuously improve the observability stack: define meaningful metrics, alerts, and dashboards that reflect real system behavior across all layers.
  • Design, maintain, and regularly test Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans, ensuring the organization is genuinely prepared, not just documented.
  • Manage and validate backup strategies across cloud environments, ensuring recoverability is verified through regular restore tests, not assumed.
  • Proactively simulate failures through controlled chaos engineering practices, injecting faults in a structured way to identify weaknesses before they surface in production.
  • Anticipate system degradation by interpreting infrastructure and application metrics, acting before issues impact end users.
  • Automate incident detection and first‑level response, reducing mean time to recovery and limiting the need for manual intervention.
  • Contribute to incident management and post‑incident reviews, driving systemic corrective actions to completion.

QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience)

  • Cloud infrastructure: Hands‑on experience operating cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure (compute, storage, networking, and managed services). The candidate is expected to navigate both platforms confidently in day‑to‑day operations, adapting shared overarching best practices and design philosophies to the local technical context. Core areas include compute and container orchestration (EC2, EKS, Azure VMs), storage (S3, EBS), networking (VPC, NSG, load balancers, DNS), and managed database services (RDS, Azure SQL or equivalent).
  • Identity & access management: Demonstrable experience with IAM and IdP solutions such as Entra, Okta (provisioning mechanisms, RBAC, access reviews, and least‑privilege enforcement across cloud solutions).
  • Monitoring & observability: Dynatrace, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana or equivalent ; hands‑on experience with at least one similar platform is required.
  • Chaos engineering: AWS Fault Injection Simulator, Azure Chaos Studio, Gremlin, Chaos Monkey or equivalent; hands‑on experience with at least one of these tools is preferred.
  • Infrastructure & configuration automation: Terraform, Ansible.
  • Backup & recovery: cloud‑native backup services (AWS Backup, Azure Backup or equivalent).
  • Scripting proficiency in at least one language (Python, Bash or similar), including PowerShell for Azure administration and RBAC automation, with basic familiarity with CI/CD pipelines as part of the broader automation ecosystem. ITSM: Atlassian Jira or equivalent.
  • English B2+ .
  • Analytical and methodical, able to maintain clarity and structure when diagnosing complex or time‑sensitive situations.
  • Genuinely curious: you dig into systems to understand how they work, not just to fix what is broken.
  • Proactive mindset: you anticipate problems rather than react to them, autonomous and structured, with a strong sense of ownership; collaborative, able to work closely with cloud, development, and security teams comfortable proposing improvements, challenging the status quo constructively.
  • Business‑aware communication: able to translate technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non‑technical stakeholders, understanding the business impact of infrastructure decisions, not just their technical implications.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

  • Right to work in Italy.
