About the Junior Big Data Engineer Role

We’re looking for a Junior Big Data Engineer to join our growing Big Data team in Pisa. You’ll play a key role in managing and evolving our AWS-based data infrastructure, which ingests, processes, and stores terabytes of data daily to power real-time analytics and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms.

You’ll work side by side with Data Engineers and Data Scientists, contributing to automation, ETL development, infrastructure optimization, and deployment of scalable solutions for our programmatic advertising platform.

What You'll Do

• Operate and evolve our big data stack on AWS (including MSK, EMR, Kinesis, Glue, and MWAA)
• Design, implement, and optimize ETL pipelines for large-scale data processing
• Collaborate with the Data Science team to prepare and manage datasets for model training and deployment
• Automate existing workflows and contribute to infrastructure-as-code practices
• Support the deployment of internal tools and applications in the cloud
• Participate in R&D activities: evaluating new tools, improving system performance, and ensuring scalability

What We're Looking For

• Knowledge of AWS data services: MSK (Kafka: message broker), EMR (Spark/Flink), Glue, Kinesis, MWAA (Airflow)
• Basic understanding of cloud environments (preferably AWS)
• Basic experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation)
• Strong interest in big data processing and scalable architecture
• Collaborative mindset, problem- solving oriented and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS or similar)
• AWS certification (Cloud Practitioner or Associate level)
• Exposure to streaming frameworks (Flink, Spark Streaming)
• Awareness of cloud security best practices
