Lead Energy Consultant – Solar. A leading international renewable energy consultancy is recruiting an experienced Lead Energy Consultant – Solar. The company specialises in technical and commercial consultancy across renewable energy, with expertise in utility-scale solar and the wider energy transition. The role supports developers, operators, lenders and investors across large-scale solar projects with an established presence in Italy and Europe.

What You Will Be Doing

Your work will be focused primarily on technical and commercial consultancy services for utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects. You will be advising developers, operators, lenders and investors in the Italian market, as well as supporting projects across other European countries.

• Business development within the solar sector, building client relationships and helping to win new work.
• Leading technical and commercial due diligence for utility-scale solar projects and portfolios, acting as Project Director, Project Manager and technical lead where required.
• Assessing technical and commercial risks that could impact project performance, financial models, project timelines, CAPEX and OPEX, while proposing suitable mitigation measures.
• Reviewing key project areas including grid connection, land agreements, permitting, environmental constraints, project design, construction strategy, operational contracts and project schedules.
• Delivering bespoke Owner's Engineer services for solar projects.
• Supporting strategic industry initiatives and contributing to working groups and sector activities.
• Managing multiple projects while coordinating internal and external resources.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or another relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum 8–10 years' experience within renewable energy consultancy, with a strong focus on utility-scale solar.
• Extensive experience leading technical due diligence across utility-scale solar projects.
• Strong understanding of solar project development, grid connection, permitting, environmental considerations and construction processes.
• Experience reviewing EPC, OM and other renewable energy construction and operation contracts.
• Ability to assess technical risks and understand their commercial implications across project financing and investment transactions.
• Proven track record of building and maintaining long-term client relationships and contributing to business development.
• Excellent consultancy skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.
• Strong report writing and communication skills in English.
• Willingness to travel as required.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a client-focused consulting environment.

Preferred

• Owner's Engineer, construction monitoring or asset management experience within utility-scale solar.
• Experience working across European solar markets.
