Job Overview

An opportunity exists for a Low latency Trading Co-location Operations (Colo OPs) engineer to join our Low Latency Trading Colo Ops Infrastructure Technology team based in Bergamo, reporting to the Dublin Infrastructure Technology team. As part of a multi-skilled team, you will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day running of our colocation sites in Frankfurt and mainland Europe. Experience working in financial trading exchange specific data centres is necessary for this role. Flexibility is required for both travel and collaboration with core trading business hours. You will also be required to travel to our Dublin office from time to time to build up your knowledge of the Susquehanna low latency trading infrastructure and requirements for our Colo buildouts.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the day-to-day onsite operations and optimisations in our trading venues.
  • Help grow and optimise Susquehanna's trading footprint and data centre presence in Bergamo and mainland Europe.
  • Implement the fit-out and management of new data centre infrastructures and make improvements and upgrades to the current environment based on low latency trading R&D driven enhancements from Dublin.
  • Support the day Colo team on site and plan and prepare for the next Colo visit, resolving issues, closing out on JIRAs, and supporting planned maintenance.
  • Follow Colo Ops installation processes and procedures to ensure that all racking and cabling of hardware within cabinets is completed to a high standard.
  • Respond to all relevant trading colocation related issues and perform regular scheduled out-of-hour maintenance window activities.
  • Receipt, tracking and deployment of server and network hardware.
  • Document Colo infrastructure.
  • Follow and implement processes and procedures that improve stability, performance and availability.
  • Liaise with Dublin Low Latency Trading R&D(EMO) team to deliver solutions from our Dublin lab to our production trading colos.
  • Ensure projects and plans are delivered to agreed scope, milestones and budgets.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively across all departments within Susquehanna.
  • Plan travel to other European data centre locations to aid in capacity expansion and new trading colo projects.
  • No on‑call is expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in Bergamo Aruba data centre or Eurenext preferred.
  • Experience in a high‑availability and high‑security data centre environment.
  • Experience following and implementing large‑scale technical trading infrastructure rollouts within trading colocation environments.
  • Data centre, network and server installation and support in troubleshooting and break‑fix experience.
  • Experience following and maintaining data centre industry best practices.
  • Cable management to an extremely high standard, specific to low latency trading.
  • Measurement of optic fibres using optical measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Data centre documentation and asset tracking.
  • Experience with Arista, Cisco or equivalent network hardware.
  • Knowledge of power distribution systems.
  • Some knowledge of hardware monitoring systems would be advantageous.
  • Ability to plan and complete tasks with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work at heights and lift server and network hardware regularly.
  • Familiarity with Linux to advanced user or basic administrator level.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 to advanced user or basic administrator level.
  • Ability to perform basic port configuration on switches.
  • A valid passport is required for travel within the EU.
