Role Overview: We're seeking a dynamic and results-driven Mechanical Designer that will contribute to the expansion into new markets for metamaterials and innovative solutions. This role will deal with all the product development process, from the first sketch all the way through to profitability with clear eye on margins, BOM and manufacturability.

The focus is on everything connected to structural material, specifically on metal sheet work and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical or civil structure design, with specific expertise in sheet metal part development and the ability to translate technical decisions into measurable business results. Close collaboration with R&D, production, and customers is central to the position.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design 3D models and 2D drawings of product parts and assemblies, defining tolerances, material choices, and technical specifications

2. Drive product margin: analyze make-vs-buy decisions, identify cost reduction opportunities in materials and processes, and work with procurement and production to hit cost targets.

3. Develop and own the Bill of Materials (BOM), from first prototype through industrialization, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and alignment with target costs.

4. Manage the industrialization and certification process, creating the documentation needed for regulatory and customer approvals within our strategic verticals (infrastructure, energy and machinery) and delivering tailored solutions for our customers.

5. Collaborate closely with R&D and Manufacturing to ensure manufacturability, scalability and cost efficiency

6. Act as the technical interface with customers: understand their requirements, translate them into design specs, manage feedback loops, and ensure satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle

Qualifications:

1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience is strongly recommended

2. +5 years practical experience in sheet metal work and product design (cutting, bending, welding, advanced processes) and a passion for the field.

3. Proficient in 3D CAD software (Inventor is preferred)

4. Planning mindset to manage project development following milestones independently from the development tasks.

5. Proactive approach to solving technical challenges and developing solutions for high-complexity sectors like infrastructure, naval, and medical devices.

6. Experience in workshops and manufacturing plant or a strong willingness to "get hands-on" and understand production processes.
