The position of
Mechanical Engineer
(within the Rolling Stock Engineering Department) is based in
Pistoia
or
Napoli
(Italy).
Accountabilities
Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS) for mechanical components
Analyze and assessment of technical documentation from Suppliers
Prepare and verify mechanical installation/integration drawings/specifications
Conduct design reviews (both internal and with suppliers) for the assigned work package, under the supervision of relevant Engineering Managers and Project Engineers
Attend at system stand‑alone type test and review of type test reports
Support manufacturing, testing and validation phases
Review design documentation with customers and suppliers
Prepare structural drawings (carbody shell, bogie frames, mechanical components)
Prepare equipment layout and mechanical routing drawings
Prepare Bill of Materials (BoM)
Ensure compliance with input requirements, international railway regulations and standards and project constraints (time, cost, quality)
Prepare the documentation required for vehicle approval and support the homologation phase
Required Skills & Knowledge
Experience (3‑5 years) in the Railway sector or in complex industrial environments
Good knowledge of main railway regulations and standards
Good knowledge of IBM DOORS requirements management tool
Good knowledge of engineering processes and railway operations
Good knowledge of mechanical disciplines (installation, interfaces, component design, etc.)
Good knowledge of design verification and validation methodologies
Good knowledge of mechanical CAD systems (Catia or Creo preferred)
Good knowledge of piping systems, fittings and joint design methodologies
Good knowledge of noise/vibration modelling and assessment of mechanical components
Good knowledge of welded structure design rules and standards (EN 15085)
Good knowledge of PLM systems (Windchill preferred)
Good knowledge of office automation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast‑paced, international and multicultural environment
Strong planning and organizational skills, alongside team‑working and problem‑solving mindset
Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders (including suppliers, partners, customers)
Ability to work within project teams under minimum supervision
Availability for occasional short‑term national and international business trips
Desired Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of railway vehicles running dynamics performance assessment
Fast learner with strong willingness to stay up to date with technological developments
Good business acumen combined with solid technical skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Education & Qualifications Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical disciplines mandatory).
Languages Knowledge of written and spoken English (at least B2 level).
