Navigation & Orbital GNC Lead Engineer

Experteer Overview

In this role you lead Avio’s Orbital GNC unit, guiding a small team to design, validate, and qualify GNC algorithms for orbital platforms and service modules. You will translate high-level requirements into GNC specs, drive R&D on control, pointing and navigation, and oversee validation campaigns including HWIL tests. You will coordinate resources across disciplines and interface with ESA/ASI and external teams to ensure compliance with specifications. This is a chance to shape flight‑critical guidance and navigation for space platforms within a renowned Italian aerospace innovator.

• Lead and coordinate the Orbital GNC unit (3-4 people)
• Derive GNC/AOCS specifications from high-level requirements
• Conduct R&D on control, pointing and navigation algorithms
• Write/modify software prototypes
• Model dynamics, disturbances and complex systems (6DOF, multibody)
• Draft validation plans for test campaigns including HWIL
• Verify performance in closed/open loop
• Produce progress and compliance reports
• Coordinate resources and plan team activities
• Interface with Technical Authorities (ESA/ASI) and external teams
• Manage formal preparation flow for reviews

Responsabilità

• Master in aerospace or aeronautical engineering
• 5+ years in GNC design/validation for satellite/orbital platforms/navigation
• Solid background in orbital flight mechanics, GNC, propulsion, structures, thermal
• Proficiency with MS Office, Matlab/Simulink, C and Fortran
