Overview

Join AWS Infrastructure Services as an Optical Network Development Engineer in the Network Product Development (NPD) team. You will design, implement, and support scalable testing infrastructure for optical interconnect development and product deployment across multiple global data centers, ensuring high reliability and performance of AWS networks.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop automated tools and standardized processes for high‑volume optical transceiver system level testing.
• Lead collaborative efforts with internal stakeholders and supplier partners to establish robust testing frameworks and quality assurance procedures for optical modules.
• Work with network operations to identify operational issues, improve quality, and refine the RMA process.
• Engage stakeholders to identify areas of improvement during rack deployment or bring‑up.
• Optimize link error handling efficiency with the network operations team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of work experience on optical communication systems or components.
• 8+ years of experience with optical transceivers and IEEE standards.
• 4+ years of experience developing test scripts for optics validation and characterization.
• 2+ years of experience working with optical and networking merchant silicon suppliers, manufacturing processes, and qualifications.
• 1+ year of professional development experience with Python or a similar scripting language for automation scripting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master/PhD or foreign equivalent in Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in hardware and systems design, development, and troubleshooting.
• 1+ year of experience in the application of network design, including knowledge of major protocols, topology design, network hardware, device configuration and traffic engineering.
• 1+ year of experience in database and AWS services.
• 1+ year of experience working with ODMs and component suppliers in delivering optical solutions.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth requirements for this role.

Team

The NPD organization designs hardware, builds software, and owns the interconnects for AWS routers, managing a growing fleet that expands about 70% annually to ensure seamless global network performance.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $157,300.00 – $212,800.00 annually. Amazon offers sign‑on payments, RSUs, comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) matching plan, paid time off, and parental leave.
