The "Performance Engineer - Cooling" is responsible for optimizing vehicle performance through integrated cooling management. This role focuses on the analysis, design, and development of cooling management systems that maximize energy efficiency, range (for electric vehicles), powertrain performance, for both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicles (EVs). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and control systems principles, as well as experience with advanced simulation software and optimization methodologies.
Essential responsibilities
- Define vehicle thermal performance targets in line with product requirements and regulations.
- Develop and implement integrated cooling strategies that optimize powertrain performance, energy efficiency, and comfort.
- Perform sensitivity and trade-off analyses to assess the impact of design choices on vehicle thermal and overall performance.
- Develop and validate advanced multi-physics simulation models for predicting vehicle thermal behavior under various operating conditions.
- Utilize numerical and experimental optimization techniques to improve the performance of cooling systems.
- Collaborate with chassis, cab, electronics, and aerodynamics design teams to integrate cooling solutions into the vehicle.
- Conduct experimental tests on components, subsystems, and complete vehicles to validate simulation models and system performance.
- Analyze test data and develop countermeasures to address any cooling performance issues.
- Monitor industry trends and new technologies in vehicle cooling management, with a focus on innovative solutions for electrified vehicles.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and present analysis results to project teams and management.
Requirements
- Proven experience (at least 5 years) in thermal analysis, design, and optimization of thermal management systems, with a focus on vehicle performance
- Thorough understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and control systems principles.
- Proficiency in using multi-physics simulation software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, Star-CCM+, GT-Suite, etc.) and optimization tools.
- Familiarity with thermal management systems for ICE and EV vehicles, including engine cooling, HVAC, battery thermal management, and electric powertrain systems.
- Ability to conduct experimental tests, analyze data, and interpret results.
- Knowledge of optimization methodologies (e.g., DOE, RSM, genetic algorithms).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
