About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Plant Purchasing Manager to lead and optimize all procurement activities within our manufacturing plant. Reporting to the Plant Manager and working closely with Corporate Procurement, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the timely supply of materials, components, and services while achieving cost, quality, and delivery objectives. The role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and extensive experience in an automotive manufacturing environment. The Plant Purchasing Manager will drive supplier performance, support operational excellence, and contribute to the achievement of business objectives through effective sourcing and procurement strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with plant and corporate objectives.
- Manage supplier relationships and lead commercial negotiations to secure the best cost, quality, and delivery conditions.
- Monitor procurement KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify and implement cost reduction and value engineering opportunities.
- Ensure the uninterrupted supply of materials and services required for plant operations.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Logistics, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to support operational performance.
- Conduct market analysis and supplier benchmarking to identify new sourcing opportunities and mitigate supply risks.
- Lead supplier performance reviews and manage corrective action plans when required.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with Corporate Procurement and Global Sourcing teams to align local purchasing activities with global strategies.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Purchasing professionals, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Manage escalations related to supplier quality, delivery, capacity, or commercial issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of purchasing experience within the automotive manufacturing industry.
- Proven experience in a Plant Purchasing Manager or Senior Purchasing Manager role.
- Previous experience managing and developing a purchasing team.
- Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship management skills.
- Solid understanding of direct and indirect purchasing processes.
- Experience working within multinational manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably AS400, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and cost reduction methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken.
