Principal Accountant

As Principal Accountant in Milan, you act as the accounting reference point to ensure high-quality financial data and robust practices across an international, project-driven organization. You will help design scalable accounting processes, support project accounting and long-term contract revenue recognition, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to sustain accurate reporting. This role offers impact in shaping structured financial operations within a growing company. You will work closely with Finance leadership to drive data integrity and compliant financial processes.

• Serve as the accounting reference point for general ledger activities (journal entries, accruals, provisions, balance sheet reconciliations)
• Coordinate and improve month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes for accuracy and timeliness
• Prepare and analyze statutory and internal financial reporting with data integrity focus
• Contribute to design, documentation, and continuous improvement of scalable accounting processes
• Perform data validation by analyzing end-to-end financial flows and propose corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and applicable standards
• Progressively support project accounting activities including cost tracking, margin monitoring, POC calculations, and revenue recognition for long-term contracts
• Assist payroll and tax reconciliations and support audits

Responsibilities and Qualifications

• >10 years of professional experience in general accounting, audit, or similar roles
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics or related field
• Strong command of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Experience as a trusted accounting reference point and in process structuring
• Knowledge of payroll and tax matters and interaction with external providers
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAGE, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work autonomously and cross-functionally in an international environment
• Fluent English (min B2); German knowledge is a plus
