Organizational Setting

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance, and policy aspects of FAO's activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their development, with particular emphasis on human well-being, food security, and poverty reduction.

Key Functions

  • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned programmes/projects; monitors and analyses programme/project development and implementation.
  • Researches, analyses and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends.
  • Generates survey initiatives; reviews, analyses and interprets responses.
  • Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g., background papers, analyses, sections of reports.
  • Provides substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings and conferences.
  • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops and seminars.
  • Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget funding and prepares related documents/reports.

Specific Functions

  • Coordinates the development, funding, formulation and implementation of projects.
  • Monitors delivery and budget allocations and supports the drafting of annual project work plans.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of value chain upgrading strategies.
  • Ensures quality control on project implementation tools.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

  • Advanced university degree in agricultural/fishery economics, food science/technology, business administration or other fields relevant to food value chains.
  • Seven years of relevant experience in value chain development programmes or related area.
  • Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.
