Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Prototype Workshop Operator to support the development of combustion engines in a hands-on, multidisciplinary environment. The role involves machining, casting, 3D printing, assembly, and basic electronic tasks to fabricate and test prototype components. The ideal candidate is a practical, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic workshop setting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machining & Fabrication
- Operate manual and CNC machines (milling, turning, grinding, etc.) to manufacture precision components.
- Perform finishing processes such as deburring, polishing, and surface treatments.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication.
2. Casting & 3D Printing
- Assist in the preparation and execution of casting processes, including mold preparation and metal pouring.
- Operate and maintain 3D printers for rapid prototyping of engine components.
- Post-process 3D-printed parts using finishing techniques such as sanding and coating.
3. Assembly & Testing
- Assemble prototype combustion engines and subsystems according to technical drawings.
- Perform mechanical fitting, adjustments, and alignment of components.
- Conduct basic functional tests on assembled parts to verify performance.
4. Basic Electronics & Wiring
- Assist in wiring and installing sensors, actuators, and electronic components.
- Solder and crimp electrical connections when necessary.
- Support basic troubleshooting of electronic systems under engineer supervision.
5. Workshop Maintenance & Safety
- Ensure tools and machines are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Follow strict safety protocols when handling materials, equipment, and hazardous substances.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Technical diploma or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, machining, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in machining, fabrication, or prototype building.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics .
- Familiarity with casting techniques and 3D printing is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of electronics and wiring .
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet tight project deadlines.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in prototype development or R&D environments .
- Experience working with combustion engines or automotive/motorsport components .
- Comfort with handling and assembling precision-engineered parts .
Work Environment & Conditions:
- Hands-on role in a small, fast-paced workshop .
- Exposure to machining noise, metalworking fluids, and casting materials .
- Occasional lifting of heavy parts and standing for extended periods.
- Protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, etc.) provided and required.
