Eurac Research is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Researcher to join the PV Performance and Reliability team, within the Photovoltaic Energy Systems Research Group. The position focuses on the analysis of outdoor performance data, the investigation of long‑term system behaviour under real‑world conditions, and the development and application of PV performance models. The successful candidate will contribute to international research collaborations and help advance the understanding and bankability of PV technologies.
The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and starts with a fixed‑term contract of one to two years, with the intention and expectation of a long‑term collaboration.
Tasks:
- Analyse outdoor performance data from PV systems and develop insights on system behaviour and degradation trends
- Develop, apply and validate physics‑based and data‑driven PV performance models
- Investigate degradation mechanisms and reliability trends using long‑term monitoring datasets
- Publish high‑quality research in peer‑reviewed journals and present results at leading international conferences
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the strategic direction of the group
- Contribute to European and international research collaborations and projects (e.g. IEA PVPS, Horizon Europe)
Requirements:
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated research experience
- Solid expertise in outdoor PV performance data analysis, including data quality assessment and long‑term trend analysis
- Experience with PV performance and degradation modelling, including tools such as PVLib and RdTools
- Proficiency in Python (or equivalent) for data analysis and scientific computing
- Good knowledge of PV technology, performance metrics, and degradation mechanisms
- Track record of publishing in scientific journals and conference presentations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in international, multidisciplinary teams
A Plus If You Also Have
- Familiarity with bifacial modules, tracking systems, agrivoltaics, or BIPV
- Experience with machine learning applied to PV or energy data
- Knowledge of relevant IEC/ASTM standards and field measurement protocols
- Participation in standards bodies or international working groups
- Experience writing or contributing to research project proposals
