Role Overview
The Energy Marshal / Senior Authorized Person (SAP) is a critical safety and control authority on a data centre construction project. The role is responsible for overseeing and implementing the Hazardous Energy Control Programme , ensuring that all electrical isolation and energisation activities are carried out safely, systematically, and in full compliance with site procedures and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) programme across the project
- Act as the primary authority for LOTO procedures, ensuring all isolation points are identified, locked, tagged, and verified prior to the commencement of works
- Oversee and control all energisation activities, ensuring no systems are unintentionally over-energised
- Coordinate and supervise the energisation of critical infrastructure including switchgear, generators, and UPS systems
- Work closely with commissioning teams during system testing and energisation phases
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and procedures
- Review and verify documentation relating to isolation, energisation, and permit systems
- Enforce safe systems of work across all contractors and subcontractors on site
- Act as the key liaison between construction teams, contractors, and client operations teams to ensure safe and efficient system handover
- Maintain full accountability for electrical safety, risk mitigation, and adherence to project protocols
Requirements
- Proven experience working within data centre environments (essential)
- Previous experience as an Energy Marshal or Senior Authorized Person (SAP)
- Strong knowledge of LOTO (Lock Out / Tag Out) and hazardous energy control systems
- In-depth understanding of electrical commissioning and energisation processes
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-risk activities with a strong focus on safety and compliance
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
