Job Description

We are seeking a talented Senior Backend Engineer to help us architect and build the next iteration of our AI‑powered products. You will drive the innovation of our AI integration and build modern, scalable, real‑time architecture, unlocking new capabilities and performances, starting from our conversational AI products. You’ll collaborate closely with AI engineers, product managers, and the broader engineering team. This is a hands‑on role where your work will have a great impact in our strategic project.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain scalable, robust backend services, starting from our voice and chat AI applications.
  • Coordinate and guide a small team of engineers.
  • Identify and implement balanced, cost‑effective solutions for complex distributed systems, focusing on scalability and integration.
  • Experiment with new technologies to achieve real‑time and seamless integrations, implementing POCs to try the latest trends in AI.
  • Integrate third‑party APIs such as Twilio (voice), WhatsApp, ElevenLabs, OpenAI, and others.
  • Implement real‑time communication features (websockets, streaming), conversation architectures, and advanced voice capabilities.
  • Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines, ensuring robust monitoring, logging, and operational support.
  • Write clear documentation and support knowledge transfer within the team.

Your First Week

  • Set up your development environment.
  • Participate in onboarding sessions.
  • Start exploring our product and familiarize yourself with the team.

Your First Month

  • Gain familiarity with our workflows and processes.
  • Develop, test, and deploy your first feature to production.
  • Monitor the feature’s performance and impact.
  • Understand product metrics.

After Three Months

  • Achieve deep understanding of our system.
  • Deliver five to ten new features to production.
  • Identify opportunities for product improvements and have some proposals scheduled for upcoming development cycles.
  • Guide junior engineers through architectural decisions, refactorings, and give advice when needed.

Qualifications

Must‑have

  • 5+ years of experience in OOP backend engineering, preferably with Java, PHP, .NET or similar OOP languages.
  • Proven skills in building scalable distributed systems, with millions of calls per day, complex product logic and multiple systems involved and integrated.
  • Hands‑on experience integrating LLMs (preferably OpenAI).
  • Knowledge of MCP and exposure to multi‑agent architectures.
  • Experience with database technologies (SQL and NoSQL), caching techniques and performance tuning.
  • Experience with automated testing tools at various levels (unit testing, integration testing, e2e testing).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to stay hands‑on on the product development.

Nice‑to‑have

  • Experience working with containerization (Docker) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Experience with conversational AI frameworks (chatbot, voice assistant) and with AI/ML frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph).
  • Experience coordinating small engineering teams.
  • Experience integrating with third‑party communications APIs.
  • Previous experience with Twilio and/or WhatsApp is highly desirable.
  • Previous work migrating legacy systems to modern stacks.
  • Experience with real‑time speech processing, TTS/STT, and telephony systems and PBXs (Asterisk, FreePBX, etc.).
