Role description

Prometeon Tyre Group is looking for a Compound & Raw Materials Expert to join our Materials Team, reporting directly to the Compound & Raw Materials Manager. The selected candidate will play a key role in the development, qualification and industrialization of raw materials and compounds, providing technical guidance across projects and acting as a reference point for cross-functional stakeholders and external partners.

Key responsibilities:

The candidate will contribute to the R&D Material and Compounding team at the company’s headquarters (HQ) with direct responsibility for the following activities:

• Raw materials strategy and scouting : Identify, assess and drive the introduction of new raw materials and technologies to improve compound performance, sustainability and industrial robustness.
• Compound development and product request management : Lead compound development activities by defining formulation strategies, managing product development requests, translating performance targets into compound solutions, and interpreting laboratory and industrial data to support sound technical decisions throughout development projects.
• Cross-functional technical leadership : Work closely with Procurement , HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) , Product Team , Quality Team and manufacturing stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of new compounds and be compliance with company standards.
• Research partnerships and external collaboration management : Manage and strengthen collaborations with research centers, universities and external scientific partners, promoting joint development activities, technical exchanges and innovation opportunities aligned with the company’s R&D priorities.
• Knowledge sharing and mentoring : Contribute senior expertise to the team by mentoring junior colleagues and promoting best practices in material characterization, testing and technical documentation.

Qualifications required:

We are looking for a senior professional with the following qualifications and skills:

• Educational background : Master’s degree in Chemistry or related fields such as Materials Science , Materials Engineering , Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering (preferably with a focus on polymers). A PhD or equivalent specialization is considered a plus.
• Relevant experience : several years of proven experience in raw materials, rubber compounds or related industrial R&D activities, preferably in the tyre, rubber or polymer sector.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory analytical techniques, including TGA , DSC , IR Spectroscopy , Titrations and BET . Knowledge of NMR and advanced material characterization techniques is a plus.
• Solid understanding of chemical reactions, synthesis, material characterization and the relationship between raw material properties, compound performance and industrial processing.
• Proven ability to read, interpret and translate technical patents, scientific literature and supplier documentation into actionable development proposals.
• Strong proficiency in the MS Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and confidence in handling technical data analysis and reporting.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Italian .
• Proven ability to develop compounds and effectively manage product development requests , translating product performance needs into robust and industrially feasible material solutions.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills , with the ability to manage complex technical topics with autonomy and sound judgment.
• Strong organizational, communication and stakeholder management skills , with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence decisions in a multicultural environment.
• Proactive, innovation-oriented mindset and the ability to mentor less experienced colleagues and contribute to team capability growth.
