Within VML HEALTH is the Global Strategy Team (GST), home to a diverse set of strategic thinkers. It represents the highest levels of strategic competency under an agile business model, working independently with clients or as part of an integrated agency team. The GST brings together four key disciplines to build brands and shape the healthcare environment from pipeline development through to loss of exclusivity: Medical Strategy, Engagement Strategy, Brand Strategy, and Medical Consulting. This role sits with the Engagement Strategy team and our European Hub.

About the Position

Reports to: Head of Engagement Strategy

Where you shine

As a Senior Engagement Strategist, you will lead a human-centered approach to translating empathy and understanding of the world into meaningful experiences. You will anticipate emerging opportunities at the intersection of people, culture, technology, and business, identifying where to play and how to win for our clients. You will understand the root of client challenges, frame problems creatively, and provide inspiration and clarity through thought leadership. Engagement strategy is core to VML Health's capabilities, providing leadership across strategy and innovation in customer engagement practices.

You will operate independently, managing a team of junior engagement strategists to drive projects, growth, and new business. You will oversee the discovery, synthesis, development, and business impact of engagement strategies. You will inspire change through curiosity, impact-driven thinking, and a focus on actionable strategy.

What your success will look like

Your Day-to-Day Impact:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our clients’ customers’ wants, needs, and behaviors across the full customer journey.
  • Oversee the development and orchestration of engagement and omnichannel strategies, connecting strategic goals to engagement priorities and channel-specific tactics (e.g., social, CRM, website, paid media, apps, rep-delivered, etc.). This includes building connected ecosystems and enabling personalization at scale to maximize impact and drive results.
  • Set expectations for how audience profiles fit into projects and help establish the foundation.
  • Apply analytical frameworks and methodologies, analyzing data to craft concise stories.
  • Lead workshop planning, measurement strategy development, analytics approaches, engagement planning, tactical exercises, and content creation.

Your role with clients:

  • Manage strategic development for at least one major client and/or oversee multiple clients.
  • Engage with and manage senior client relationships as a key strategic partner.
  • Lead and support engagement strategy development in new business pitches.
  • Continuously analyze client challenges and opportunities to improve work.
  • Guide strategic direction in brand development and marketing approaches.

  • Provide guidance and support to junior and mid-level strategists.
  • Motivate and mentor team members to learn and contribute.
  • Encourage innovation and pursuit of growth opportunities.
  • Inspire the team to challenge conventions and take risks.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on business, brand, and communication strategies.

Who you are and what you bring

  • 7-13 years of experience in research and strategic planning.
  • Experience in HCP and DTC marketing agencies.
  • Critical thinker, innovator, and visionary who inspires creativity.
  • Passionate and curious about the practice.
  • Deep understanding of global, regional, and local communication contexts, with experience in developing communication plans across these levels.
  • Passionate about driving innovation in engagement strategies.
  • Excellent collaboration skills across functions like tech, data, and digital production.
  • Ability to develop strong client relationships through deep immersion.
  • Highly collaborative with effective stakeholder management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, with a multidisciplinary background including business strategy, marketing, consumer insight, or account planning.
