Job Overview
You are a hardware engineering professional who will help build Amazon Web Services’ next‑generation Ethernet switching platforms. You will design and develop modular chassis‑based products, lead high‑speed digital architecture, and work closely with PCB designers, test teams, and manufacturing partners to transition designs into production.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture, specification, and detailed design of modular chassis Ethernet switching platforms, including terabit switch fabrics and 10/40/100 gigabit interfaces.
- Lead high‑speed digital design, performing simulation, timing analysis, thermal analysis, and EMC testing.
- Select key components, collaborate with PCB designers on layout and stack‑up, and coordinate testing and transition to manufacturing.
- Work with Asian ODM and JDM partners throughout development and manufacturing phases.
- Serve as project lead, managing cross‑functional teams and ensuring on‑time delivery.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
- Motherboard and PCB design experience, including schematic capture, stack‑up, and layout.
- BSEE with 10+ years of hardware board and system development, having taken products from concept to mass production.
- Recent 5+ years of experience with Ethernet switching fabrics, Ethernet PHY/SerDes interfaces, embedded CPU subsystems, DDR memory design, network processors, I2C, and USB.
- Advanced high‑speed PCB design skills and AC/DC PI knowledge.
- 5+ years of CPLD/FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog.
- Experience troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, PCI analyzers, and in‑circuit emulators.
- Strong verbal and written communication; organized and detail oriented.
- Project and technical lead experience; program management skills required.
- Experience interfacing with cross‑functional teams, including mechanical, SI, diagnostic, and manufacturing engineers.
- Experience working with external vendors, especially Asian CMs and ODM/JDM partners.
- Candidate must be able to travel up to 10% and enter Taiwan and China without visa issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
- Experience with interdisciplinary teams from concept to production.
- Project management experience for technical projects.
- Knowledge of server technologies: thermal, mechanical, power, signal integrity.
- Defining and implementing modular chassis functions such as redundancy, hot‑swap, power distribution, environmental control, and system management.
- CPLD/FPGA experience in advanced HW control, monitoring, and logging.
- Experience specifying mechanical enclosures.
- Assets: analog design, signal integrity analysis, DC‑DC switcher design, EDVT, MDVT.
