Senior Mechanical Engineer

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading international contractor on a major Data Centre project based in Milan. This is a senior-level, permanent position offering exceptional long-term career prospects and the opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of high-profile, technically complex builds.

** This is a Site based role and NOT a Design specific position**

Responsibilities:

• Lead the mechanical engineering function on-site, overseeing the design, coordination, and installation of HVAC, piping, and ducting systems.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and site teams.
• Manage and coordinate mechanical subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with project timelines, budget, and quality expectations.
• Review and approve detailed mechanical designs, technical submittals, and method statements.
• Drive project progress by leading coordination meetings and resolving design or installation issues proactively.
• Ensure full compliance with design specifications, industry regulations, and safety standards through rigorous quality assurance processes.
• Oversee mechanical commissioning and system handover in collaboration with commissioning teams and client representatives.
• Contribute to procurement strategy, material selection, and long-lead item management.
• Act as the primary point of contact for mechanical engineering matters, reporting to the Project Manager and interfacing with client teams as required.

Requirements:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in large-scale construction projects, ideally within the Data Centre, Pharmaceutical, or Industrial sectors.
• Proven track record of managing mechanical packages from concept through to commissioning.
• Deep understanding of mechanical systems design, building services integration, and site-based delivery.
• Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Fluent in English; Italian is an advantage but not essential.
• Willingness to be based on-site in Milan for the duration of the project.
