Join Schindler as a Senior Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d)
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to strengthen our R&D Mechanical Engineering team.
In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert , responsible for the design, development and validation of mechanical solutions for elevator systems and components.
You will drive engineering activities from concept through release, provide technical guidance to the team and ensure that solutions meet the highest standards of quality, performance, safety and cost efficiency.
You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and support the growth of junior engineers through mentoring, knowledge sharing and technical coaching.
Location: Milan, Lombardy, Italy (Hybrid: 1 day/week working from home)

Your Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the development and industrialization of innovative mechanical solutions for elevator products.
Your responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for elevator systems, ensuring compliance with technical, safety and quality requirements
- Creating and reviewing 3D models, drawings and engineering documentation using PTC Creo and managing product data within Windchill
- Driving technical decision-making and providing engineering guidance across development projects and design reviews
- Performing engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and technical validations to ensure robust and reliable solutions
- Supporting product verification, prototyping and testing activities, analyzing results and implementing corrective actions when required
- Ensuring design-to-cost, manufacturability, maintainability and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle
- Coordinating with cross-functional teams including R&D, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality and Supply Chain
- Acting as a technical mentor for junior engineers, supporting their development and promoting engineering excellence within the team
What You Bring (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Several years of experience in mechanical design and product development within industrial engineering environments
- Advanced proficiency in PTC Creo for 3D modeling, assemblies and detailed engineering design
- Strong experience with Windchill and engineering documentation/release processes
- Proven experience in technical leadership, coordination of engineering activities and mentoring of less experienced engineers
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials and manufacturing processes
- Experience performing engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and technical problem-solving
- Ability to work effectively within international and cross-functional teams
- Strong communication, decision-making and stakeholder management skills
- High level of self-motivation, accountability and result orientation
- English — Medium to Advanced
Qualifications That Will Strengthen Your Profile (Nice to Have)
- Experience in the elevator, escalator or vertical transportation industry
- Experience in the design and development of elevator mechanical components
- Familiarity with validation testing, FEM analysis and product verification activities
- Experience supporting industrialization and manufacturing optimization initiatives
- German language skills
- Experience working within global R&D organizations and international product development projects
