Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs while maintaining high quality within budget and schedule.
  • Influence internal stakeholders, operations teams, and external consultants to address program‑wide design changes.
  • Manage escalations and identify multidisciplinary design decisions.
  • Understand design development, change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with construction managers, RFIs, submittals) lifecycle.
  • Apply project management skills including critical‑path scheduling, risk management, quality management, and cost management.
  • Manage design consultants, procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments.
  • Communicate consistently with AWS leadership and external partners; create, track, and report metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout project life cycle.
  • Convey Amazon's Leadership Principles and manage competing priorities.
  • Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops; reduce and automate manual work through standardization and automation.
  • Create global best‑practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the organization.
  • Motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in a growth‑driven and deadline‑oriented environment.
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and interfacing with design consultants (anticipated travel not to exceed 25 %; international travel may be required).

A Day in the Life

  • Lead design team meetings to coordinate cross‑disciplinary decisions.
  • Review and approve design documents and changes.
  • Manage consultant deliverables and performance.
  • Respond to technical escalations from various teams.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams on implementation.
  • Coordinate with AHJs for permitting requirements.
  • Track project metrics for schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Create and update best‑practice documentation.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct site assessments and construction reviews.
  • Manage critical‑path schedules and risk mitigation.
  • Mentor team members on design standards.
  • Analyze design optimization opportunities.
  • Review RFIs and submittal responses.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural license.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
