Overview

Job ID: | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and are looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver safety, security, and capacity at low cost while maintaining an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

In this role you will influence fire protection design, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centers, including fire suppression, fire detection, fire alarm, and mass notification systems, as well as fire-resistant construction and life safety. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document fire protection features using prescriptive and performance-based design approaches. As an Owner, you will help ensure the fire protection features protect people and data, and contribute to continual improvement of design standards.

Primary responsibilities include water supply analysis and design for fire water service to buildings, coordination with utilities and fire officials, coordinating space requirements for fire protection systems, and providing construction specifications for fire protection trades. You will prepare prescriptive designs for building fire suppression, alarm, and detection systems, and may prepare or approve performance-based design elements as needed. You will review design disciplines to meet minimum fire protection requirements and may perform or oversee this work.

You will be the team’s subject matter expert, ensuring contractors have the information needed to build data centers as expected and that operations teams can operate and maintain them. You will work with stakeholders across design, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, service providers, and local building and fire officials as part of a global team dedicated to advancing technology.

Key responsibilities

  • Driving improvement of design standards and project approaches across the organization.
  • Collaborating with third-party design vendors to review concept designs and progress against established design standards, local code requirements, and AHJ requirements.
  • Providing high-quality fire protection engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally, aligning designs and objectives with global fire protection teams.
  • Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to respond to requests for information and value engineering queries.
  • Creating construction documents, ensuring code compliance, establishing design and installation standards, evaluating water supply, testing, inspections, and submittal review; meeting with AHJs as needed for approval.
  • Travel up to 25% as required.
