Sr. Network Development Engineer - UAE Nationals Only, AWS Backbone

Job ID: | Amazon Data Services Emirates LLC - Dubai Branch

Revolutionize Global Connectivity at Amazon Web Services. AWS has an exciting Senior Network Development Engineer opportunity in Dubai available for a UAE national with family book. AWS is committed to contributing towards the UAE’s goal of employing 75,000 Emiratis in the private sector and Ministerial Resolution No.279.

Join our AWS Networking team and become a critical architect of the world’s most complex and resilient network infrastructure. You’ll design network solutions that connect millions of users and services globally, pushing the boundaries of technological innovation and scalability.

Within Networking, we’re confronting and solving complex and high-stake challenges. Our teams support all aspects of connectivity to/from Amazon and the outside world, as well as the connectivity between Amazon’s data centers and services. As a member of one of our network engineering teams, you will play a part in designing and architecting networks that simply cannot fail, must scale infinitely, and can never constrain growth or innovation.

About AIS

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design and architect network topologies that support Amazon’s global connectivity requirements
  • Develop and defend high-level design documents for network infrastructure
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps
  • Construct, test, and validate network solutions that anticipate future technological needs
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for network operations teams

Overall: As a Network Development Engineer at Amazon, your core responsibility is to design network topologies, architectures, and services that solve many requirements. You will have the resources and time necessary to understand, scope, and deliver these solutions. The primary area of responsibility is to design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred. This involves creating and defending High Level Design (HLD) documents, working with vendors or internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps, constructing and testing your solutions, and providing support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs. Your team also serves as a technical escalation point for operations teams.

A day in the life

Your day will be a dynamic blend of strategic design, collaborative problem-solving, and technical innovation. You’ll engage in creating network architectures that support Amazon’s global infrastructure, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop connectivity solutions. Expect to dive deep into routing protocols, traffic engineering, and network design challenges that have never been solved before.

About the team

This opportunity sits within our Border Network organization where the team is responsible for designing the networks connecting Amazon directly to the outside world (including the Internet, peers, and external customers), evolving the global backbone that interconnects our Regions, and partnering with our internal customers. Engineers in this organization define routing policy, design and implement Traffic Engineering solutions, and architect the hardware platforms and network design to support internal and external connectivity. We move terabits of traffic in and out of our networks each day and are responsible for the ingress and egress points of traffic entering and leaving Amazon and the entirety of all internal and customer traffic that rides our global backbone. Engineers on this team make day‑to‑day and strategic decisions that carry a huge amount of responsibility and impact.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl
  • 8+ years of major Internet routing protocols experience
  • 5+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience debugging, profiling, and implementing best software engineering practices in large‑scale systems
  • Experience with global network infrastructure design
  • Expertise in traffic engineering and routing policy development
