Overview
The Supply Chain & Logistics Manager for Florence Sites (Sette Santi and Scandicci) holds end-to-end responsibility for the entire material flow within the pharmaceutical plant. They lead and coordinate production planning (Manufacturing and Packaging), material procurement, warehouse management (raw materials, WIP, finished goods), and logistics (inbound/outbound). The primary objective is to ensure maximum operational efficiency and achieve customer service levels (OTIF - On-Time In-Full), while operating in full compliance with GMP/GDP regulations, Quality procedures, and Safety standards (HSE). This role acts as a strategic bridge between commercial functions (Global Demand Planning/Supply Chain), Site Production, Quality Assurance, and Controlling (Finance).
Main Activities & Responsibilities
Strategic and Operational Planning
- S&OP and Master Scheduling: Lead the site-level Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, translating market demand into feasible production plans. Oversee the development of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for both Manufacturing (Bulk) and Packaging departments, balancing capacity, equipment efficiency, and lead times.
- Capacity Management: Conduct long-term analysis of production capacity and labor requirements, identifying bottlenecks and proposing strategic solutions to the Site Leadership Team (SLT).
- Material Requirement Planning (MRP): Supervise the planning of raw materials (APIs, excipients) and packaging components (primary and secondary), ensuring supply continuity and preventing stock-outs.
Logistics Operations and Warehouse Management
- Physical Flow Management: Oversee all warehouse activities: goods receipt, storage, sampling (coordinated with QC), production supply (Manufacturing and Packaging), and finished product shipping.
- Stock and Inventory Management: Optimize inventory levels (raw materials, WIP, and finished goods) to maximize Working Capital turnover while maintaining supply security. Responsible for inventory accuracy and the execution of cycle counting and annual inventory processes.
Compliance, Quality, and Safety (GMP/GDP/HSE)
- GMP/GDP Compliance: Ensure all logistics and warehouse operations are performed in strict accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Distribution Practices (GDP). Responsible for drafting and updating departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Quality Systems: Manage deviations, CAPAs (Corrective and Preventive Actions), and Change Controls related to the supply chain and logistics. Actively participate in audits (internal, client, and regulatory authorities such as AIFA/FDA).
- Safety (HSE): Ensure the safety of all logistics personnel by promoting a Safety First culture and ensuring compliance with accident prevention regulations regarding lifting equipment and the storage of materials (including hazardous/flammable goods).
Leadership, Team Management, and Budget
- Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and develop the Supply Chain and Logistics team (including Planners, Warehouse Staff, and Administrative personnel). Define clear objectives, manage performance, and promote training and succession plans.
- Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage the department's operational budget (OPEX) and capital expenditures (CAPEX). Constantly monitor logistics, storage, and transport costs.
- KPI & Continuous Improvement: Define, monitor, and analyze key KPIs (e.g., OTIF, inventory accuracy, planning efficiency, logistics costs). Lead Continuous Improvement projects (Lean/Six Sigma) to optimize flows and reduce waste.
Job Requirements
- Education: Master’s Degree in Management Engineering, Economics, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology (CTF), or related disciplines. A Master’s in Supply Chain Management/Logistics or APICS certification is preferred.
- Experience: At least 8–10 years of progressive experience in Supply Chain and/or Logistics, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial role coordinating structured teams.
- Industry: Experience in the Chemical-Pharmaceutical sector (or Biotech/Medical Device) is essential, including in-depth knowledge of GMP and GDP regulations.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in advanced ERP systems (e.g., SAP ECC or S/4HANA, modules PP/MM/WM).
- Excellent knowledge of planning methodologies (S&OP, MPS, MRP).
- Solid understanding of warehouse operations and stock management.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical serialization and Track & Trace systems (preferred).
- Professional certifications (e.g., APICS CPIM or CSCP) are a plus.
- Languages: Excellent knowledge of Italian and English (minimum B2/C1 level, written and spoken).
- Strategic Leadership and People Management: Ability to lead and develop complex teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Problem Solving and Resilience: Ability to manage high-pressure situations, unforeseen events, and crises (e.g., sudden stock-outs, equipment failure) with a calm, solution-oriented approach.

- Effective Communication: Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts across all levels of the organization, both locally and at the Corporate level.
