Technical Coordinator
Department: 89-405 - Content - P&E - Resources
Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract
Location: Italy - Milan - Cologno Monzese
Description
The Technical Coordinator is a key member of the technical team, supporting the Technical Producer and the Technical Manager in the delivery of all live, recorded and hybrid productions originating from the Milan newsroom and studios. Operating in a fast-paced editorial environment where journalists generate the editorial vision, the technical team is responsible for engineering reliable, innovative and cost‑conscious solutions to bring those ideas on air without compromising broadcast continuity.
The Technical Coordinator acts as the trusted right hand of the Technical Producer, contributing to technical readiness, workflow design, vendor coordination and on‑air quality. The role also deputises for the Technical Producer during rest days, holidays and off‑shifts, ensuring uninterrupted technical leadership and a single, accountable point of reference for editorial and production teams at all times.
The role primarily supports local Italian productions, with potential involvement at market or regional level depending on project requirements and cross‑market initiatives.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Technical Innovation & Solution Design – continuously scout, evaluate and propose state‑of‑the‑art technical solutions that are robust, scalable and economically sustainable, aiming to reduce technical limitations and unlock new editorial possibilities (IP workflows, cloud production, contribution technologies, new camera and audio systems).
- Workflow Development – co‑design and implement new production workflows alongside the Technical Producer, including remote production (REMI), bonded‑cellular and smartphone‑based newsgathering, and hybrid setups that integrate consumer/prosumer devices with full broadcast equipment.
- Operational Reliability & Procedures – consolidate, document and continuously improve standard operating procedures, pre‑show checklists, redundancy strategies and contingency plans designed to prevent on‑air failures and guarantee broadcast continuity.
- Vendor & Supplier Coordination – manage day‑to‑day operational relationships with equipment rental houses, technical facilities, OBvan operators, studio suppliers and freelance technicians across the Italian territory, ensuring correct execution of technical specifications, schedules and budgets.
- Pre‑Production & Live Technical Support – lead and support technical breakdowns, site surveys, equipment planning, testing and rehearsals; provide hands‑on support in studio, gallery, MCR, OBvan and remote setups; act as first‑line escalation and resolve issues in real time during live transmission.
- Quality Control – Audio & Video – perform technical QC on audio and video signals during rehearsals and live shows, identifying defects with a trained ear and trained eye, and driving their resolution before they impact the on‑air product.
- Deputising for the Technical Producer – cover the Technical Producer during rest days, holidays and off‑hours, taking ownership of technical decisions, supplier escalations and editorial‑technical liaison to ensure full operational continuity at all times.
- Stakeholder Communication & Editorial Liaison – act as a clear, calm and reliable communication bridge between editorial teams (journalists, producers, editors) and the technical supply chain, translating editorial ideas into feasible, reliable and cost‑effective technical requirements.
- Documentation, Reporting & Knowledge Sharing – produce and maintain technical documentation, post‑event reports and operational feedback to support continuous improvement; mentor and onboard freelance and junior technical staff, ensuring alignment with established procedures and DAZN technical standards.
What You'll Bring:
Technical skills:
- Solid broadcast engineering background: video/audio signal flows, SDI and IP infrastructures, vision mixers, audio consoles, intercom and comms, replay and graphics systems, MCR routing.
- Proven hands‑on live experience in studios, control rooms / galleries and OBvan operations.
- Working knowledge of remote production (REMI), cloud‑based production tools and contribution/distribution technologies (bonded cellular, IP transmission, fibre).
- Experience with hybrid production setups combining broadcast and consumer/prosumer devices (smartphones, mirrorless, action cams).
- Strong IT literacy: computer systems, networking fundamentals, software‑based production tools.
- Outstanding ear for audio anomalies and trained eye for video defects (colour, exposure, sync, compression and transmission artefacts).
- Detail‑oriented, manual‑reading mindset – genuinely enjoys studying device documentation and mastering new equipment from first principles.
Soft skills:
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders (journalists, editors, producers).
- Calm and composed under pressure, with a structured problem‑solving approach and full ownership of issues until resolution.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills in a live, fast‑paced environment.
- Curiosity, passion for technology and a continuous‑learning attitude – a true tech enthusiast.
Leadership skills:
- Able to coordinate internal teams and external suppliers without direct line‑management authority.
- Trusted to deputise for the Technical Producer during absences, taking ownership of operational decisions.
Benefits
Benefits include access to DAZN, lunch vouchers, free coffee and snacks, family friendly community, learning and development resources, opportunity for flexible working and access to our internal speaker series and events.
